Abstract
Luster is a novel that explores how the life trajectories of several characters are entangled and disrupted by a single tragic event. Aaron and his girlfriend Nev discover the body of Susan Hayward in the shoals of a Western Pennsylvanian creek. Although Aaron does not recognize Susan at the time, he later learns that she is the mother of a boy he has known and hated all his life. As the novel progresses, the reader experiences the unexpected consequences of a discovery that brings some of the characters together and drives others apart. Thematically, Luster is about the inherent flaws in human relationships, the secrets that divide people, and the power of the past.
