Abstract
“Eyes on Fire / Pomegranate Hearts” is a collection of two novelette-length speculative fiction stories. Both stories deal with themes of queer love and longing through the lens of folklore and fantasy. In “Eyes on Fire,” a teenage boy is confronted with two mysteries: the appearance of his doppelganger, which haunts his day-to-day life, and the reemergence of a friendship with his mysterious neighbor across the street, about whom it seems there is more than meets the eye. In “Pomegranate Hearts,” a retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth, a young woman is risen from the dead by a necromancer, who then charges her to bring him Death’s heart; however, Death may not be who she expects and her journey to the underworld is full of surprises.
