Abstract
At Night I Dream of Flying is a horror novella exploring themes of bodily autonomy, personhood, expectations, grief, loss, identity, and parenthood while subverting the Alien-abduction horror subgenre, and borrowing tropes from demonic possession, and haunted house horror subgenres.
Emma is a grieving mother who is dealing with the loss of her only child via anger, violence, and self-destruction. She finds herself isolated, obsessing over an insomniac fantasy that her house is haunted. The fantasy is more real than Emma realizes. Her insomnia gives way to a peculiar amnesia, as her body manifests some unusual physical changes.
