Abstract
Another Part of the City and Other Writings is a hybrid thesis. It consists of three novel chapters, two short stories and two essays. The two short stories are in the “style” of magical realism, the novel is in the realist mode, with forays into the surreal, and the two essays are first person memoir. The themes and subjects of thesis include ideas about trauma, bereavement, desire, mental illness, family loyalty, Eastern spirituality and New York City.
