Final Abstract for URS Program
In today's dynamic socio-cultural landscape, the intersection of art and societal practices serves as a pivotal nexus for fostering understanding, empathy, and progress. Art transcends mere aesthetic expression; it becomes a powerful medium through which individuals engage with and critique the world around them. At the beginning of my studies on the UMSL campus, I very quickly realized the impact that the arts could have to make a difference in the world around me. Connecting with several groups both on campus and off such as the Make a Wish Foundation, United Way, Faces not Forgotten and The Red Circle we were able to help raise awareness as well as bring relief and in some cases joy to the people we were working with.
By intertwining art with societal practices, we amplify voices, illuminate narratives, and challenge prevailing norms. This constructive collaboration not only cultivates a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives but also catalyzes meaningful dialogue on pressing issues ranging from social justice to environmental sustainability. Ultimately, bridging art and societal practices enriches our collective consciousness, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate global community.
